As some of you may know, I get my hair done by one of the best in Austin! Her name is Kacie and she works at the Milk + Honey Salon in the Arboretum. I get a lot of questions about my hair so I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A with Kacie about hair in general! I’ve been seeing Kacie for a little over a year and I can honestly say I’ve never loved my hair more than I do right now… it’s such a good feeling! All of the questions below are answered by Kacie!
If you’re interested in booking with Kacie you can call this number: (512) 236-1115 or send her a DM on Instagram!

Q: How often should I wash my hair?
A: “If you can get on a schedule of washing every other day that’s ideal to balance out the natural oils in the scalp and hair. Over washing can actually cause an overproduction of oil and can strip the hair of the natural oils it needs to stay hydrated and shiny.”
Q: What can I do to maintain my hair color?
A: “Toners! Anytime I have clients that like to go longer in between color services such as balayage or natural sun kissed highlights I recommend coming in for a toner. A toner lasts about 4-6 weeks and can enhance, cancel or neutralize tones in hair color. It also seals up the cuticle to protect the hair and adds softness and shine.
Products! Using quality products is the best way to maintain color. Using a quality shampoo, conditioner, and thermal protectant is the easiest way to maintain your beautiful color and healthy hair. I recommend the Kevin Murphy or Davines line for products!”
Q: Favorite brand of styling products?
A: “My go to is the Davines and Kevin Murphy line! They are made with quality ingredients, color safe, free of parabens and work fabulously!”
Q: Number 1 Must Have hair product?
A: “An all in one! My favorite at the moment is the Oi All In One Milk from Davines. It’s a leave in conditioner, heat protectant, styling aid, adds shine and protects the hair.”
Q: Curling wand or Curling iron?
A: “Team curling iron! I feel like it’s a better tool because if you can learn to use an iron you can use it in more ways that one to get different types of curls/waves!”
Q: How often should I get my hair cut?
A: “At minimum 4 times a year (every 12 weeks) This maintains healthy hair and allows growth.
To maintain the length that you’re at I recommend every 6-8 weeks.
For shorter looks I recommend every 4 weeks!”
Q: Tips for fighting frizz?
A: “Hydration! Hair Frizz’s because it’s seeking moisture from the air. If we can use an anti humectant (such as smooth again from Kevin Murphy) and apply generously when wet we can seal the cuticle before it has a chance to expand too much! Keeping hands out of hair as it’s drying also helps- the natural oils in our hands can disrupt the cuticle smoothing down. It’s best to keep hands off!”
Q: Best way to treat damaged hair?
A: “Patience, consistency, and an open mind! The best way to treat damaged hair is to have a routine/ game plan with your stylist. It’s not only important how your stylist handles your hair in the salon but how you- the client takes care of your hair at home.
This means using good products, lowering the heat, and coming in routinely for haircuts/ treatments.
Sometimes treating damaged hair also means letting go of it, it might be best to have an open mind to start fresh and take some length off with a new look!”
